Sandhill Cranes foraging and feeding their 2 colts (chicks) in Yellowstone national Park

My friends in Texas and California may have seen Sandhill Cranes when they leave us when it gets cold here in Montana and Yellowstone and head to warmer climates.

This male and female Sandhill Crane are foraging with their two colts and stopping to feed their babies. According to several sources, crane colts, also known as chicks, are precocious and able to run within 24 hours of hatching which led to their being called “colts”.
