A Moose Mom and Her Calf Eat and Swim in a Yellowstone Pond

In June, Yellowstone moose calves are still very young and dependent on their mothers. Born in late May or early June, these calves are often seen closely following their mothers to learn and mimic behaviors essential for survival. The bond between the moose cow and her calf is strong, with the mother being fiercely protective. During this period, the calves are nursing but may start trying solid food. In this video, the moose mom takes her calf to a pond and encourages it to swim.
